Jarrett’s Bio

Jarrett Hatcher
Jarrett Hatcher was born on the Fourth of July in Staunton, Virginia. He shares the same birth date as Koko the sign language gorilla. He really has never left the city limits of the Queen City. A product of Staunton City Schools, he attended Thomas Dixon, Shelburne Junior High, and Robert E. Lee High School. He attended Bridgewater College where he doubled majored in History and Political Science. In a strange twist of fate, he ended up being the Lee J.V. basketball coach his senior year at Bridgewater College. That job led to his current position as a history and government teacher at Lee. Jarrett has coached basketball at Lee for seventeen seasons and has been the head golf coach for ten. He retired in 2004 from coaching tennis at Lee.
Jarrett’s little league career was really not that great. He was marginal player at the YMCA for seven seasons and was not much better as a soccer player. He began his coaching career at the YMCA at the age of ten. Jarrett’s work with the YMCA continues today as Youth Basketball Coordinator. He failed miserably as Quarterback Club football player, he played every down on the 0-6 1980 Colts. They were so inept they only scored two touchdowns all year.
Jarrett began playing golf at the age of seven and it has continued to be his favorite activity. He played basketball and golf at Robert E. Lee and continued his golf career on the Bridgewater golf team under the guidance of Lamar B. Neal. Jarrett was also a member of the Robert E. Lee Pop Quiz team that competed in national competitions in New Orleans and Chicago, where he unsuccessfully tried out for JEOPARDY! He was a member of the Bridgewater College Quiz Bowl team.
When not teaching or coaching, Jarrett is usually playing golf or reading.
